Address to the Turrialba Volcano, the Parque Nacional Volcan Turrialba is among the least visited national parks within the country. Last having exploded in 1866, in excess of 130 years ago, the stratovolcano or compound volcano is the key that draws attention to this park and offers a quantity of magnificent traveling around opportunities for the exploratory traveler. With each and every one three of its craters easily reached and not dangerous to wander, the Turrialba Volcano presents a quantity of wonderful summit picturesque vistas, climate permitting, of the lush surrounding countryside including the Poás, Barva and Irazu Volcanoes in the expanse.

With its slopes green and lush and well inhabited with conventional dairy farms, near the apex of the volcano you will locate a lush montane cloud and rain forest, which serves as a host to a number of wildlife, birds and rich plant life including bromeliads, bamboo, and ferns. The second tallest volcano in Costa Rica following theVolcan Irazu, the Turrialba Volcano was called Torre Alba or white smolder by the initial colonial Spanish colonists, who used to perceive plumes of smoke coming up on a regular basis from the volcano’s apex. Now mostly inactive, the only sights of movement from this volcano can be observed in the largest crater where sulphurous vapors rise from the crater base.
Situated in Cartago Province in the gorgeous Central Valley, the Turrialba Volcano National Park rests 40 miles east of the San Jose city and not many miles northwest of Turrialba.
