Mora, known to the locals of Costa Rica as canton number 7, is a city frequented by tourists because of its rich past, beautiful scenery, fantastic tour packages, and warm locals. Belonging to the twenty counties of the province San Jose, Mora is part of the metropolitan area of San Jose, making it more attractive to tourists.
The five districts of Mora namely Tabarcia, Piedras Negras, Colón City, Picagres, and Guyabo all contribute to preserve the richness of the canton – making it a haven for travelers who are in search of a beautiful attraction and relaxing adventure. One thing that attracts tourists and travelers to Mora is its vibrant and interesting historical background.
The town of Mora was discovered by a traveler named Juan de Cavallón during the year 1560. Cavallón then established the town and developed it by the end of the century. After some time, people from the area started calling it Villa Colon. Eventually, the name was changed to Ciudad Colon in honor of traveler Christopher Columbus.
Because of the exploits and successes of former President Juan Rafael Mora, the canton later on was names Mora. On the nature side, Mora is very keen on preserving beautiful, picturesque locations.
The Quitirrisí Indigenous Reserve is located within Mora, as well as the Tabarcia Rivers watershed and the Negro watershed. These three are favorite spots to visit by tourists. Just imagine how relaxing and refreshing the feel of the breeze must be near these world famous watersheds! Travelers are welcome to take pictures of the scenery.
