Guadalupe
Guadalupe is a city of Costa Rica that is found around four kilometers in the east of San Jose. This city is not so sub-urban, but rather, it is much peaceful and quiet. This is the government seat of Goicoechea, a formal constituency or district of Costa Rica since 1981, and is named after a notable Franciscan priest Friar José Antonio de Liendo y Goicoechea. According to history, the early colonizer constructed their homes in the first road in the area, which is now commonly known as Calle Blancos.
Despite its simplicity compared to other cities in Costa Rica, Guadalupe is still a component of the greater Metropolitan Area. Some famous and interesting sights, to name a few, include the Women's Reformatory, Doctor Ricardo Jiménez Nuñez Clinic, the historical and architectural landmark, the Avance Hydroelectric Plant, Rancho Redondo, the lookout point, and the Cordillera Volcánica Central Forest Reserve.
Guadalupe is a fairly flat landscape, surrounded by the rivers Torres, Purral, Tiribí, Ipís, Ozotal, Cangrjos, Patalillos, Patal, and Barreal. Coffee is the current primary crop in the area, although in the past the farmers used to have tobacco as the chief produce.
Other harvests include mangoes, watermelon, and cantaloupes.
This community is known for its fine dining and for the city's classiest restaurants, which is partly due to its historical church and enchanting central park. Should you decide to take time and visit the place, it is timely to schedule it on December. Why? This is because every December 12 each year, the city celebrates what they call Fiesta de la Yeguita (Little Mare).
During this event, the solemn-faced villagers gather as the Virgin of Guadalupe is toured around the streets and parque central of Nicoya. Dancing (sometimes the residents even wear costumes), accompanied with music, escort the parading statue. This festivity also incorporates bullfights, concerts and fireworks.
