To those who have not been yet to Costa Rica, Aserrí is the one of the canton in the beautiful province of Costa Rica – San Jose. A city that was rumored to have been inaugurated sometime during the 18th century, Aserrí got its name from an Indian Chief named Aczarrí who was said to be the first leader of the city.

If you intend to visit Costa Rica, your trip will not be complete if you do not make a stop at Aserrí. From the main streets of San José, you can easily reach Aserrí via a very good highway with spectacular view. The view on your way to the city of Aserrí is so beautiful and relaxing that you may not even notice that you are already there.

Now, if you are in for some cultural landmarks, Aserrí is also the destination for you. Local legends and folklore has it that a local with, ña Zárate, is residing at a cave you will see on your from to Aserrí from San Jose. Where is the cave located? You can’t miss is! On you way, a few short miles southwest, you will see a big rock and right at the foot of this huge boulder you will see an old looking cave. This cave is the home of the witch. Sounds like an interesting adventure, doesn’t it? Well, lucky for you it doesn’t end there. Legend has it that the witch ña Zárate does, from time to time, walk the streets of the mountain and the highway and guard the gold, diamonds, and precious jewel she hid there. This beautiful and breathtaking view (plus the local legend) makes the cave, the rock, and the highway a favorite attraction for travelers and tourist. Be sure to take pictures there! You might even have a glimpse of ña Zárate!
